Please respect our neighbours and our campus

When in college we politely ask you to please show respect towards our residential neighbours.

This includes loitering around homes and also littering, there are a number of bins across the college and the surrounding areas that we would ask you to use.

Beside the obvious mess and the impact students littering has on the reputation of Gower College there are also a number of even more serious issues this causes.

•  Public health issues – waste left on our streets attracts unwanted animals and pests which have been known to spread disease.
• Litter causes damage to marine life, seas and rivers – Dumping litter on sidewalks or along curbs, often causes it to get washed down in to storm drains during a heavy rain. Eventually this water leads to the nearest river or ocean. If the water becomes polluted from litter we can no longer use it for drinking or recreation.
• Littering Can cause Soil, Water, And Air Pollution – Hazardous chemicals can leak out of the litter and pollute the soil and nearby water. These toxins eventually enter the human body via the food chain. The contaminants also inhibit plant growth and can cause health issues in animals. Pathogens in Litter can also lead to epidemics

These are just a few of the MANY reasons not to litter, so let’s take some pride in our college and our city and use a bin.
