Refugee Week
Refugee Week is an annual event that takes place in many countries around the world. The week-long event is all about celebrating contributions that refugees make to our society and raising awareness about the challenges they face and our duty to welcome and support refugees and those seeking asylum.
The aim of Refugee Week is to encourage people to think about the lives of refugees and the challenges they face when they arrive in a new country. Many refugees are forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, or other forms of violence. They often arrive in a new country with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and face significant challenges in terms of finding work, housing, and support.
During Refugee Week, a wide range of events and activities take place across the country, including film screenings, concerts, talks, and exhibitions. The goal of these events is to raise awareness about the experiences of refugees and to celebrate the positive contributions they make to society.
In addition to raising awareness, Refugee Week also aims to promote the integration of refugees into society. Integration can be a difficult and complex process, and refugees often face significant barriers in terms of language, culture, and social norms. By highlighting the contributions that refugees make to society, Refugee Week helps to promote a more positive and inclusive view of refugees, and encourages greater understanding and support.
Overall, Refugee Week is an important event that provides an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of refugees and to raise awareness about the challenges they face. By promoting greater understanding and support for refugees, we can create a more inclusive and welcoming society for all.
Like last year we are encouraging all students to take part in the “Walk a Mile in their shoes” challenge as a way of having some understanding of how far some refugees have walked for a safe haven.
More details will be up on the screens throughout the week!
